Project Information

Synergy Engineering B.V. was commissioned by Boskalis/Smit Salvage to design a 1500-ton triangular lift frame for salvage operations offshore Trinidad. The project’s focus was on delivering a functional and robust solution within a stringent timeline.

Design and Standard Compliance: Our engineering approach adhered to DNVGL ST-N001 and DNVGL-ST-0378 standards, ensuring a simple yet sturdy design capable of meeting the challenging requirements of offshore salvage operations.

Key Challenges: The primary challenges were the rapid design timeline necessitated by the project’s urgency and the requirement for the lift frame to be easily rigged in complex diving and height-access conditions.

Scope Of Work

The task encompassed the conceptual and detailed design of the lift frame, culminating in the delivery of a comprehensive design report, 3D models, FEA models, and 2D design drawings.

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in Ansys

Initial concept designs were developed through hand calculations, followed by detailed FEA using Ansys to ensure compliance with all relevant DNV load case guidelines.

3D Modeling

For 3D design and visualization, we utilized Ansys SpaceClaim and Autodesk Inventor, facilitating an efficient progression to detailed 2D design drawings.

2D Design Drawings

The final stage involved creating precise 2D design drawings using Autodesk Inventor, critical for the accurate fabrication and execution of the project.
